Ways to improve speedcube performance

Ways to improve speedcube performance

Speedcube debugging, also known as Speedcube customization (speed twist Speedcube customization)

Before starting debugging, let me introduce a few Speedcube parameters

Wheelbase
The tighter the screws in the Speedcube center block, the smaller the wheelbase

The actual experience is the tightness of each surface, which can be experienced and quantified by holding and pulling the entire layer of the SpeedCube

Mainly affect fault tolerance and flying edge performance.

Generally, the looser the screw, the larger the wheelbase and the greater the tolerance, but the easier it is to cause flying edges or corners. Even if there are no flying edges or corners, the excessive wheelbase will make the speedcube loose. In the high-end of the fifth order and above, an excessively large wheelbase will also cause staggered floors.

Elastic

Refers to the elastic force of the spring in the Rubik's cube center block. If the SpeedCube is the maglev version of the Moyu, it refers to the magnetic force of the iron ring in the center block of the SpeedCube.

reflected in rotational resistance

The greater the elasticity, the more stable the SpeedCube

The smaller the elasticity, the more flexible the SpeedCube (I can't find the adjective...)

Let me give you some perspectives
The wheelbase is the range in which the SpeedCube layers are separated.
Elastic force is the difficulty of layer separation, so if the elastic force is small, it will be easy to separate, it will be easy to rotate, and the resistance will be small
In short, if it feels too slippery, increase the elasticity.

Magnetic force

Generally speaking, when we say magnetic cube, it refers to the speedcube with magnetic positioning during the rotation homing process.

In most cases, the magnetic speedcube relies on the magnetic attraction between the corner blocks and the edges for rotational positioning.

In layman's terms, the moment the speedcube is about to turn to the cube, the magnetic force will help us attract it, and then attract it, so that the speedcube can be accurately returned to its position during the rotation process.

Magnetic force helps us reduce the lag caused by unstable techniques. At the same time, the deformation is reduced and the stability of the speedcube is increased. The greater the magnetic force, the greater this effect.

But if the magnetic force is too large, the starting resistance of the speedcube will increase (because the magnetic force must be broken through when the rotation is out of position). Therefore, the magnetic force also needs to be adjusted.

Here I will take some Moyu series third-order speedcube with better feedback as examples

Teach you how to adjust these speedcubes to the feel you want most from scratch, so that these excellent speedcubes can exert their maximum performance

The three Moyu Tier 3 speedcubes mentioned in the article are all equipped with the elastic wheelbase double-adjustment system that only appears on the flagship speedcube.

The elastic wheelbase is separated and adjusted to meet the needs of the speedcube with various handles.

So the focus here is on how to use this elastic wheelbase dual adjustment system.

Find the accessory box inside the speedcube box, there is a screwdriver inside, used to turn the screw to adjust the wheelbase

There is also a transparent blue tool for debugging elastic

Open the center cover (as in the first picture above), and use a screwdriver to tighten the screws, will this work?

Tighten the screws, the wheelbase becomes smaller; loosen the screws, the wheelbase becomes larger;

Then there is the elastic adjustment

Insert the spring adjustment tool into the adjustment slot

Every time you turn one counterclockwise (there will be a small click), the elastic force will increase by one step. The resistance becomes larger accordingly.

At the end of each cycle, there will be a loud click. At this time, it means that the elastic force has returned to the minimum state (at this time, the rotation resistance is the minimum)

So it is a periodic change of an elastic grade (counterclockwise) from 1→2, 3, 4, 5...→1.

Compared with ordinary magnetic version

The maglev version rs3m2020 uses magnetic repulsion instead of spring force.

Students who read the article carefully will realize that this magnetic repulsion is not the magnetic force in the speedcube.

The magnetic force in the magnetic speedcube means that the speedcube relies on the magnetic attraction between the corners and edges for positioning, and the magnetic repulsion is used to replace the traditional spring force.

Its debugging method and debugging function are the same as the normal version of rs3m2020, you can refer to the above.

Note that the change in magnetic repulsion is not linear

According to my personal debugging experience, the best elastic force of the maglev version rs3m2020 is the third gear, and the speedcube is loose at this time

If you still feel loose, use the fourth gear.

Compared with the factory gear, I think these two gears are more reasonable.

Moyu's latest flagship wrm2021

In addition to having a better structure and performance, it is also equipped with a magnetic adjustment system.

The method of debugging the elastic wheelbase is the same as mentioned above, here we focus on the magnetic adjustment

Insert the included magnetic tool into the magnet slot on the edge block

1st gear is the largest magnetic force, 5th gear is the smallest

Unlike adjusting the elastic force counterclockwise, please turn clockwise to adjust the magnetic force.

The specific number of gears depends on your personal preference for magnetism. I like strong magnetism myself, and I use the largest gear.
